Sunday 08 June
Geelong Waterfront - 9am - 2 Hours
Karen Wekwerth
The 50mm lens is one of the flexible and useful lenses in any photographer’s gear bag. It is neither a wide-angle or telephoto lens, but allows the camera to see on the same scale as your eye. As such, it can be used for a variety of styles, from landscape and street photography to portrait and product photography. In this meetup, we’ll review the basic camera settings. We’ll then cover some of the advantages of shooting with a prime lens, and some basic techniques to using the 50mm lens. As always, there will be ample opportunities for you to put your new knowledge into practice.

Backlighting, Bokeh and Bursts

Sunday 27 July
Eastern Park Circuit - 9am - 2 Hours
Karen Wekwerth
We will be using various techniques to maximise the behaviour of the light. Backlighting is one of my favourites and can be used for portraiture or nature. Bokeh is Japanese for blur but is a term used for soft out of focus balls of light which can look very pleasing. Burst in this case is star burst which can be achieved when you have strong areas of light and a correct choice of aperture. Use all three to create some amazing compositions.

Great that only 6 in the group. I regret that I was not as prepared as others, as this was first time using such a camera, since Box Brownie days. So more a novice than a beginner. Grateful to have come away knowing at least how to practice.

Thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Karen Wekworth has a wealth of knowledge & generously shares her knowledge, without any hesitation or being judgemental. Which in turn, means no one, is made to feel silly about asking, what might appear to others, very basic questions. Karen is so inclusive all participants & this makes for a very enjoyable & informative event.
