Architecture Photography

Sunday 23 March
Little Malop St, Geelong - 9am - 2 Hours
Karen Wekwerth
Architectural photography can be a great way of exploring and documenting a city, whether it's your home or on holiday. Its about capturing not only the design and accurate representation of a building, but to have the shots be aesthetically pleasing to the viewer's eye. An architectural photographer makes pictures, not takes pictures.

In this session, we will be covering how to better understand Architecture photography and we'll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use.

Great that only 6 in the group. I regret that I was not as prepared as others, as this was first time using such a camera, since Box Brownie days. So more a novice than a beginner. Grateful to have come away knowing at least how to practice.

Thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Karen Wekworth has a wealth of knowledge & generously shares her knowledge, without any hesitation or being judgemental. Which in turn, means no one, is made to feel silly about asking, what might appear to others, very basic questions. Karen is so inclusive all participants & this makes for a very enjoyable & informative event.

This image was taken whilst attending the recent Geelong Photography Group Beginners workshop, using a Nikon P950. At first, with the background, I thought it looked too busy but it grew on me after a friend said "It kind of depicts, in a busy world, we can still have fun & enjoy the simple things in life." I also have a weakness for black & white images as I find that they can often tell more of a story & that's why this image became a keeper.

I wanted to shoot the lunar eclipse but at the same time incorporate some quintessential Fort Worth icons into the image for context. I knew I would need to use a very long telephoto to get a large moon but in doing so knew that the rest of the image would need to be some distance from me due to the tunnel vision of the telephoto. I used Photopills and The Photographer?s Ephemeris to plan the shot which was taken with Fuji X system mirrorless equipment.
